ART IS DEAD: Solo Art Exhibition & Installation by Chuck Tingley

464 Gallery is pleased to present ART IS DEAD, an exhibition of new paintings by artist Chuck Tingley. The opening reception of ART IS DEAD will be held at 464 and Blink Galleries on Friday, April 22, 2011 from 6-11 pm. The exhibit will be on display through April 28, 201...1 and is free and open to the public.

Working in mixed media on canvas, Chuck Tingley combines abstraction, figuration, and elements of both painting and stencil to create distinctly contemporary works. His robust approach uses a range of techniques including hand cut stencils, acrylics, and spray paint. On many of the paintings, below the active surface is a collage of political and social critique, revealing society’s contemporary mores.

Tingley draws inspiration from street art and its effect on viewers, sending a political, social, or cultural message that creates dialogue. The artist suggests that a revolution is needed to awaken a dying society in America.

ELAB Interview

Every second Thursday of the month, ELAB members and friends get together for a multidisciplinary critique: from 7-9 pm at 464 Gallery. We start with a featured presenter, and have a lively in depth discussion about their work. Then we mini-critique any work willing guests bring in: a piece of art, music, writing, video, etc, by circulating and placing post it notes for each other. Through this process we gain encouragement, guidance, new sources of inspiration and best of all, a network of creative types who support and encourage each other.

Fauxtales

iPrintfromHome.com Presents
Fauxtales
New works by Chuck Tingley

Opening Reception: Wednesday, October 27, 2010 5-8pm
On View: October 27 – November 27, 2010

iPrintfromHome.com is pleased to present Fauxtales, a mini-series by Buffalo artist, Chuck Tingley. The new body of work continues the artist's realistic approach into his vivid imagination. The exhibit will be his first show with iPrintfromHome.com and will be comprised of 7-9 small to medium pieces using the technique of drawing and collage on canvas. The opening reception of Fauxtales will be held at iPrintfromHome.com on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 from 5-8 pm. The exhibit will be on display through November 27, 2010 and is free and open to the public.

Chuck Tingley positions his figures in front of a collage of book print, letting the words dictate the story. In Fauxtales, Tingley explores the words in short stories and fairytales to manipulate the character’s physical appearance in order to transcend their reality. Through these new works, Tingley takes classic fairytales and stories and turns them into his own. The exhibition will be comprised of mixed media on canvas (pencil, paper, collage, canvas).

Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, Chuck Tingley is a promising young talent currently working towards his BFA in painting at Buffalo State College. Tingley has been gaining attention on the strength of his unique and emotionally profound style of artwork. Earlier this year, he had his first solo exhibition, Emotional Effusion, at 464 Gallery on Amherst St, NY.

HOME SWEET HOME

As art becomes my life, the art studio becomes my second home. 567 Exchange Street has helped me grow tremendously as an artist and it's only been 6 months since I've become a tenant. After a 9 to 5 daytime job, it's the perfect atmosphere for aesthetic inspiration. The rustic feel streams through my veins: open/raw space, worn down wooden floors, exposed brick walls, an old elevator shaft. Every now and then, sounds of a train chugging along the railroad tracks will break up the silent stillness of the surrounding area. A limited income and I am still able to conquer life-size paint projects within my studio space.

This is my thank you to Chris Jacobs, owner of 567 Exchange St. and President of Avalon Development, LLC. for giving aspiring artists a dream. And it's time to turn this dream of mine into a reality.
